Monday Day: Sunny & Bright to Ennistymon

Irish homeowners seem to love bright pastel colors. This is just outside Liscannor, the hotel at the right. This shrine to the Virgin Mary is just beyond the houses at left. Even the LaHinch Country Club has its own set of ruins.

The Irish countryside, as seen on the road from Liscannor to Ennistymon. The simple, elegant beauty of this roadside memorial belies the horror it commemorates.

A closer view of the memorial to "the bad thing," or the famine of the mid-1800's.

This memorial really sneaks up on the unwary visitor. From the road it is just a tasteful, imaginative display of a historic event. Only a closer inspection reveals the story of a dying boy that just might rip your heart out.T

This final image, showing the child in his burial shroud, concludes the sad story.
